The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Governance and Territorial Development Directorate and the MENA-OECD Governance Programme Centre jointly organized an integrity and procurement workshop and meeting of the MENA-OECD Network on Public Procurement.

The combined event was held in the MENA-OECD Governance Programme Centre’s headquarters in Caserta, Italy from November 19-21, 2014.

The target audience of this course consisted of public procurement and audit officials with experience in the design of public procurement policy and implementation, involving planning and budgeting purchases, carrying out procurement procedures, negotiating and concluding public contracts, monitoring contract performance, and authorizing/processing contract payments.

The workshop is part in a series of workshops planned to be offered to officials from Arab countries in transition, in supporting them to implement best integrity and procurement practices at home. The workshop is conducted by international experts with a wide range of tested experiences in building sound procurement practices under different national contexts. The workshop took place on November 19 and 20, and specific topics includes issues related to public works contracting and the nature and role of audit institutions, among others.

The workshop took place under the auspices, and co-incident with the next meeting, of the MENA-OECD Network on Public Procurement (the Network), which was established in 2012 within the framework of the Deauville Partnership initiative to support MENA countries’ procurement reforms. The Network meeting occured on November 21, and will include an opportunity for Network member countries to provide updates regarding ongoing reforms as well as presentation of a model procurement training strategy.
